Halifax Explusion, December 6, 1917, 2018 commeration

This year, I finally made a pilgrimage to the annual commemoration of the world's largest man made non-nuclear explosion.
The north end of the Halifax peninsula was destroyed killing 2000 men women and children and wounding over 9000.
My great Uncle Redden was a private in the Canadian army and had been in Halifax to board a troop ship for France, but was sick with the mumps. He was place in quarintine and missed his ship. Thus he was in the base hospital when this event took place. He was one of the thousands of soldiers, sailors, medical personnell who had to help in the recovery and relief operations over the winter of 1917-1918.
The house I grew up in in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, which was 80km from the blast zone had one of the front windows cracked.
I also had a Sunday school teacher who survived this event. Mrs. Murray was a toddler and she had vauge recollections of the event.

Mastodon Trail: Carroll's Corner to Dutch Settlement

This trail is a four kilometer long trail in my area. It follows areas near the National Gypsom mine.
It took Ian and I about 2.5 hours to traverse the trail. Its a good hike.
